Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery is a set of procedures, that include Sleeve Gastrectomy (removing a large portion of the stomach) or Gastric Bypass, aimed at the treatment of morbid obesity and its related conditions like type 2 diabetes by reducing the stomach capacity or altering nutrient absorption. These are minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures, which significantly facilitate sustained weight loss and improved metabolism in patients with a higher BMI. (40 or a BMI or 35 with comorbidities).
The Techniques are either restrictive (limiting food intake), malabsorptive (reducing nutrient absorption), or a combination of both.
These procedures are generally, administered for individuals with a BMI

40, or BMI 35-39.9 with serious obesity-related health problems (e.g., heart disease, sleep apnea, uncontrolled diabetes), where the other methods have not yielded results.

It involves the replacing, remodelling, or realigning the articular surface of a joint, by implanting an artificial component called prosthesis, which is made of materials like metal, plastic, or ceramic.
